The Foreign Policy of the 90's...
The foreign policy of the U.S. changed, with the end of the Soviet Union, to problems ranging from climate change to nuclear terrorism. For a time, many of the countries were pro-US and there was a period of peace. That peace was disrupted when dictators in Iraq (e.g. Saddam Hussein) decided to attack Kuwait in '91. A U.S. led coalition successfully pushed back the Iraqi forces, but with this began what would become the American trademarked "War on Terrorism" in the 2000's and the eventual paranoia that Americans have even today with Arab people. During the '90s, though, the United States scaled the Foreign Policy budget down to focus on domestic prosperity more. For the decade, the U.S. served mostly as a peacekeeper for the U.N. in small disputes.
